The Village Bank awards $10,000 to new Good Shepherd Institute

Kenneth C. Brennan, president and CEO of The Village Bank, announced today that the Bank has awarded $10,000 to Good Shepherd Institute, a new initiative of Good Shepherd Community Care, an organization founded in 1978 as Hospice of the Good Shepherd in Newton.

Good Shepherd Institute will focus on leadership and education to raise awareness and promote community dialogue around end-of-life issues.

The Bank will be the sole sponsor of Good Shepherd Institute’s kick-off event at the Sheraton Needham Hotel on November 7, where Pulitzer Prize winning columnist, author and commentator Ellen Goodman will be the featured speaker.

Goodman is the co-founder of The Conversation Project, a grassroots public campaign to make it easier to initiate conversations about dying, and to encourage people to talk now and as often as necessary so that their wishes are known when the time comes.

“We are so very pleased that our longstanding community partner, The Village Bank, has made the launch of the Good Shepherd Institute possible through its sole sponsorship of our inaugural event,” said Timothy Boon, president and CEO.

The Bank is also a major sponsor of Good Shepherd’s annual “Big Feat” Walk each fall.
