Brennan, The Village Bank honored by Newton Schools Foundation

Kenneth C. Brennan, president and CEO of The Village Bank, was among those honored by the Newton Schools Foundation at its Celebration of Excellence Awards on May 4.

This award was presented to Brennan in recognition of all that The Village Bank has done under his leadership for the students of Newton. This includes the Bank’s $45,000 gift to the Newton Schools Foundation for the purchase of interactive white boards, the bus which the Bank helped purchase for the use of the Innovation Lab at Newton North High School, and its support of numerous sports teams, student newspapers, student theatrical productions, PTOs, and more.

It was also noted that Village Bankers are in Newton classrooms sharing their expertise on a regular basis, and that the Bank’s Auburndale Community Charitable Foundation awards $50,000 in college scholarships annually to graduating high school seniors.

Brennan joined the following Newton Public School alumnae, staff, volunteers, and community leaders in being honored: David Greenblatt, 1962 graduate of Newton South High School and inductee into its Athletic Hall of Fame; James Heppelman, president & CEO of PTC; Chuck Hurwitz, Newton South High School science teacher and founder of the Newton Robotics team, Ligerbots; Greg Livingston, music teacher at Bigelow Middle School; Jim Marini, former teacher, principal, and superintendent of the Newton Public Schools; Mary and Scott Pohlen, volunteer coaches of the Newton Bluefish swim team; and Mary Scott, long time Vice Principal of Newton South High School.
