Newton-Needham Chamber to honor The Village Bank’s Ken Brennan

Kenneth C. Brennan, chairman of the board of The Village Bank, will be among those honored at the Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce Annual Achievement Breakfast on November 13 at 7:30 a.m. at the Newton-Marriott Hotel.

The Breakfast — the largest annual gathering of area business and civic leaders – will honor local businesses and individuals for their contributions to the economic and cultural vitality of Newton and Needham.

Brennan was selected by the Chamber’s leadership to receive the RL Tennant Award, the highest honor of the event.

“Ken Brennan just excels in all that he touches,” said Seana Gaherin, chair of the Newton-Needham Chamber. “The Village Bank, under Ken’s leadership, has been so incredibly generous to our non-profits, including the Chamber, and so incredibly supportive of new and long-time businesses here. There is not a more deserving member of our community to receive this recognition. So many of the things we cherish about Newton wouldn’t exist without him.”

Brennan was elected chairman of the board of The Village Bank in May 2014, following his retirement after 23 years as president and CEO of the Newton-based community bank.

Throughout his 40-year banking career, he has been an active member of numerous civic, community, and charitable organizations and held leadership roles with industry groups including the Co-operative Central Bank and the Massachusetts Bankers Association.

A Newton native, he is a past chairman of the Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce, and served on the board of overseers of Newton-Wellesley Hospital, as vice chairman of the Newton Child Care Commission, and as president of Woodland Golf Club, as well as on numerous other advisory boards and committees.

Brennan has also been honored as a Rotary Foundation Paul Harris Fellow, and as a recipient of the Knox Trail Council Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizens Award and the CAN-DO Pillar Award. He was also honored at the Newton Schools Foundation 2014 Celebration of Excellence.

Online registration for the Annual Achievement Breakfast is available on the Newton-Needham Chamber website. Keynote speaker at the event will be Brian McGrory, editor of The Boston Globe.
