The Village Bank helps Parmenter/Wayside Hospice patients manage meds

AUBURNDALE, MASSACHUSETTS, January 11, 2007 … The Village Bank recently donated 500 pillboxes for use by home health and hospice clients of Parmenter Community Health/Wayside Hospice in Wayland.

“Our nurses, therapists, social workers and home health aides are privileged to care for people in their homes,” said Geri McCallig, home health and hospice care manager. “Helping them to manage their daily medications is a large part of what we do. The pillboxes are a key tool to help our clients organize their medications to gain the maximum benefit.”

MED MANAGEMENT – Displaying samples of the pillboxes recently provided to Parmenter Community Health by the Village Bank are (l to r): Michelle DeSimone, community relations manager, The Village Bank; Theresa Bison, homecare team leader, Parmenter Community Health; Cindy Mayher, executive director Parmenter Community Health; and Patricia MacNeil, assistant vice president, Wayland branch manager, The Village Bank.

Imprinted with both The Village Bank and Parmenter logos, the large, clearly marked four-time-a-day pillboxes will help clients to maintain a healthy regimen. The patient pillboxes are a component of Parmenter’s new Neighbors Caring For Neighbors Campaign.

“Mismanagement of daily medication is the number one reason for re-hospitalization for our clients,” said Cindy Mayher, executive director. Mayher estimates that the pillboxes will be distributed to patients in 500 households a year in Parmenter’s service area including Wayland, Weston, Sudbury, Wellesley, Concord, Framingham, Lincoln, Natick, Acton, Hudson, Maynard, Stow, Marlborough, and Waltham.

Mayher noted that partnering with a community-minded organization like The Village Bank helps Parmenter continue to provide high-quality, personalized care for its neighbors.

The Village Bank, chartered by the state in 1910, has six full-service offices in Auburndale, Newton Highlands, Newtonville, Nonantum, Waban and Wayland and a Village Loan Center in Auburndale.
